Mechanical Engineer or Electro-Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk and supportability and effectiveness analysis for total system. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirement allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. The System Engineer shall work directly with the Program Manager as the technical contact point for the customer for the program. Candidate performance directly impacts program success.

The set of tasks includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Perform system analysis
  • Conduct trade studies
  • Develop operations concept
  • Define and clarify requirements
  • Developing the system/subsystem architecture
  • Determine implementation costs
  • Producing and delivering design review presentations to internal and external customer forums
  • Serving as the main point-of-contact for modification and development activities associated with the assigned system/subsystem.

Required skills - Bachelor of Science with eight years or more of related experience or Master of Science in Engineering with six or more years of related experience with a track record of academic excellence.

  • Five years demonstrated integration, test & verification experience including leading efforts on large systems with preference given to systems that have a scientific component
  • Possessing demonstrated experience in learning to safely operate newly developed capital equipment by understanding and following the instructions of developing team members and possess the communication and organization skills to develop clear technical instructions that permit safe operations.
  • Possess the ability to use an engineering design software package.
  • Possess the ability to acquire and maintain a working knowledge of existing and newly introduced mechanical and electrical/electronic equipment and instruments.
  • Possess the ability to read and understand technical manuals, engineering and manufacturing drawings, including schematics, wiring diagrams and optical designs and layouts and possess basic machining and electrical wiring skills.
  • Possess the ability to independently devise, setup, conduct and analyze tests using instruments to investigate performance characteristics.
  • Familiar with the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Visio.
  • Experience with requirements using Telelogic DOORS.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong documentation skills.
  • Must be able to interact and lead a team of engineers, subcontractors and customers during the analysis, design and implementation phases of a project.
  • Knowledge of the Systems Engineering processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Must be able to obtain a clearance.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.

Travel up to 1 week or more per month may be required.

Work may involve sitting for extended periods of time, generally in an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
